Psychoeducational Assessment - Step 2: Testing

Psychoeducational Assessment - Step 2: Testing

Often your child's school will have completed some preliminary tests, such as IQ and special achievement tests. The evaluations at Connecticut Educational Services build upon this basic information to provide a complete and detailed diagnostic picture, including analyses of Learning Disabilities, Central Auditory Processing Deficits, and Neuropsychological injuries.

Licensed Psychologists provide all examinations.

At the conlucion of the interview procees and after reviewing available preliminary test information, further appropriate tests are chosen from an extensive stock. Depending on what may or may not have been done before, CES will examine the individual's intellectual and cognitive functioning, academic achievement, emotional functioning, and attention span. From there, CES will explore deeper into areas of specific learning disability, behavior, and brain functioning.

The Continuous Performance Test

The computerized Continuous Performance Test is a vital new tool in accurately diagnosing ADD and ADHD. Many children receive such a diagnosis because the teacher finds it difficult to get the child to sit still or pay attention. But there can be many reasons for such behavior. Often parents or teachers will fill out questionnaires about the child, but these still only provide a subjective estimate of what the problem may be.

As a part of the Psychological Evaluation, the Continuous Performance Tests provide an objective measure of whether a child has ADD / ADHD. There is an extensive database for comparison for both visual and auditory tasks. The computer provides accurate charts and statistics for the Clinician to review.

The Quantitative EEG (QEEG)

The true source underlying source of the problem is the way your child's brain is working. At last, there is a simple, non-invasive means of creating a map of the brain wave frequencies. Advanced computer software allows comparisons to be made between your child's brainwave pattern and that of normal individuals.

You will see for yourself where the problems are, and then understand how this is effecting your child at school and at home.
