David J. Suscovich, Psy.D., LMFT

David Suscovich has a doctorate in clinical psychology with a specialty in child psychological and neuropsychological assessment from Antioch New England University.  Dr. Suscovich is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and has practiced in Connecticut for over the past 30 years.  For the past 8 years, he has been a Clinical Consultant to Connecticut Educational Services and conducts psycho-educational and neuropsychological evaluations.  Dr. Suscovich has been trained in EEG Neuro-Feedback Training and works with parents and teachers to understand the relationship between brain functioning and behaviors.  Along with his interest in the assessment of brain-behavior relationships, Dr. Suscovich has conducted research in the effects of long-term stress on brain development, learning and executive functions of the brain in children. His research has suggested that long term family stress may result in delays in brain development in the areas of organization & planning abilities, short term working memory, attention-concentration, and controlling impulsive behaviors in children diagnosed as conduct disordered and oppositional defiant disorder. These delays often present with impaired language abilities and a history of poor learning performance. He is currently conducting research on the relationship between visual processing and the impact on reading and writing learning problems.

Dr. Suscovich has been a Clinical Instructor at the Yale University School of Medicine, Dept. of Psychiatry and an Adjunct Professor in the Marriage and Family Therapy Training Program of Central Connecticut State University.  Dr. Suscovich has provided clinical consultation to a number of nonprofit community agencies and programs. He is the author of a variety of research publications and previous co-host of “Grasp the Facts”, a television program for educating parents about children’s mental health issues for three years. He is certified parent trainer through  CHADD and provides parenting workshops, training for educational personnel and organizational consultation for a variety of not-for-profit and government organizations.
